Overview

Built For Continuous Wrapping

Machine Stretch Film is a multi-layer LLDPE pallet wrap produced specifically for powered wrapping equipment. Long rolls, tight gauge control and a formulation that holds together at high pre-stretch let a wrapper run pallet after pallet without film breaks or roll changes.

On a powered pre-stretch carriage the film is elongated between two geared rollers before it ever touches the load. Stretching it there rather than at the pallet is what converts a metre of film into two and a half or three metres of wrap — the reason machine film delivers a materially lower cost per pallet than hand film once volume is there.

It is the grade to specify for turntable, rotary arm and ring wrappers, in-line automatic wrapping stations, and any operation wrapping consistently through the day.

Power Grades

Three Grades Of Machine Film

Machine film is not one product. The higher the grade, the further a metre of film travels on the pre-stretch carriage — and the lower the cost per pallet, provided your wrapper can drive it. Tell us the make and model and we will tell you which grade it will run.

Grade 1

Standard

approx. 100 – 190% stretch

Everyday wrapping on semi-automatic machines. Medium-duty pallets, uniform or mixed, moving through general warehousing and local distribution.

  • Semi-automatic turntable wrappers
  • Medium-duty and mixed pallets
  • Short-haul and local distribution
  • Smooth unwind with few film breaks
Grade 2

Power & Super-Power

approx. 110 – 260% stretch

Heavier loads and harder-working sites. Runs on semi-automatic and fully automatic equipment, including turntable and rotary arm machines.

  • Semi- and fully automatic wrappers
  • Turntable and rotary arm types
  • Dense, irregular or high-value pallets
  • Higher puncture resistance at lower gauge
Grade 3

Super-High Power

approx. 190 – 360% stretch

Continuous, high-speed lines. Engineered for fully automatic and in-line systems where throughput cannot pause for a film break.

  • Fully automatic and in-line systems
  • High-speed continuous palletising
  • Long-haul transit and export loads
  • Maximum yield per roll, least waste

Stretch figures are achievable on a powered pre-stretch carriage in good condition. A worn carriage or a fixed-tension wrapper will not reach the top of a band — ask us to check before you order to grade.

Why It Works

Key Features

High pre-stretch yield

Runs at up to approximately 360% on a powered carriage, so one metre of film covers close to four and a half.

Excellent load stability

Consistent holding force wraps the load into a single rigid unit that survives handling and transit.

High puncture resistance

Multi-layer construction resists blow-outs at corners even at reduced final gauge.

Tight gauge control

Uniform thickness across the web keeps carriage tension steady and stops mid-cycle breaks.

Superior cling performance

Reliable layer-to-layer tack with a clean tail-off at cut and clamp.

High transparency

Labels and barcodes stay readable, so wrapped pallets can be scanned in the rack.

UV resistant options

UV-stabilised grades available for yard staging and open-sided storage.

Recyclable material

Single-polymer polyethylene, recyclable through standard PE film streams.

Colour Variations

Available Colours

Every grade in the stretch film range is available pigmented. Colour is added through the melt rather than coated on the surface, so it runs uniformly through the film and will never rub or transfer onto your goods.

Clear / Natural The standard. Maximum transparency so barcodes and case labels stay scannable through the wrap. Standard
Black Fully opaque. Conceals pallet contents end to end — the usual choice where pilferage is a risk. Standard
White Opaque and heat-reflective, which helps on pallets staged in the open before dispatch. Standard
Blue High-visibility colour coding — commonly used to mark a route, a round or a customer. Standard
Green Clear separation from blue on the warehouse floor; often used for quality-passed stock. Standard
Red Reads as a stop signal at distance — suits damaged, quarantined or hold pallets. To order
Yellow The highest-contrast tint in the range against dark racking and dim aisles. To order
Purple Rarely used elsewhere in a warehouse, so it never collides with an existing colour code. To order

Standard colours are produced routinely and carry the normal minimum order. Colours marked to order, and any bespoke tint, need a dedicated production run — the minimum is higher and the shade is matched against a sample before we schedule it. Opacity, gauge and stretch performance are held level with the clear grade in every colour.

Specialty Options

Built To Your Specification

Every power grade above is available with the following options. Specify them with the grade and we produce the combination in one run.

UV Resistant A stabiliser package built into the resin, rated for months of direct sun instead of weeks.
Anti-Static Suppresses the static discharge that clings dust to the wrap and gives operators a shock.
Coloured Pigmented through the melt in any of the colours above — opacity for security, tint for coding.
One- Or Two-Side Cling Two-side grips irregular loads harder; one-side stops neighbouring pallets sticking together.

Performance Characteristics

Machine film is bought on cost per pallet, not price per roll — and cost per pallet is decided by these seven properties. Each is confirmed on the datasheet issued against your order.

Stretchability

100 – 360%

Elongation achievable on a powered carriage, by power grade. At 300% one metre of film becomes four metres of wrap, which is where machine film earns its cost advantage.

Load retention

Very high

Residual containment force measured hours after wrapping. This, not the tension at the moment of wrap, is what stops a pallet leaning in a trailer.

Cling performance

One- or two-side

Layer-to-layer tack strong enough to lock the wrap, weak enough that adjacent pallets in a rack pull apart cleanly.

Tear resistance

High

Resistance to propagation from an edge nick. On a wrapper running at speed, a single propagating tear stops the line.

Puncture resistance

High

Energy absorbed before a corner or protrusion breaks through, which is what lets you drop gauge without dropping reliability.

Film memory

High

Elastic recovery after stretch. High memory is what pulls the wrapped load tight as the carriage releases.

Optical clarity

High

Light transmission through the finished wrap, so pallet labels remain scannable in the rack.

Roll consistency

Break-free running

Uniform winding tension and gauge across a 2,000 m roll — the practical difference between a shift with no stoppages and one with six.

Performance values are typical for the standard grade and vary with gauge, wrapping method and load profile. Ask for the test report covering your specification.

Choosing A Grade

Machine Film Against The Rest Of The Range

Six stretch film grades, each formulated for a different wrapping method. Machine film needs powered equipment — for manual stations, use hand or pre-stretched film.
